1. White jute: This type of jute is the oldest type of jute. Corchorus capsularis is commonly known as white jute. You can tell from the name that this type of jute has a lighter color than the others. However, this species is less durable than many others.

2. Dark jute or Tossa jute: Tossa is the most popular type of jute in recent times. It has a brown hue. Tossa jute has long fibers and is used to make jute bags and sacks. Tossa jute fiber is soft, silky and stronger than white jute.

3. Mesta jute: This type of fiber is a combination of white jute and tossa jute. Mesta jute emerged in India in 1947 when India gained its independence.

4. Jute shreds: Jute shreds are, as the name suggests, the remains of jute. At first glance, they may seem like waste, but they can be very useful for making rudimentary textiles. Jute shreds are not particularly strong and have a rough texture. Jute shreds are used to make bags, ropes, paper products and simple textiles.
